“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Stress has a way of becoming normal. You wake up already tired. Your mind runs before your feet hit the floor. You carry deadlines, expectations, family needs, unanswered emails, spiritual responsibilities—and somewhere in all of it, you disappeared.
You weren’t designed to function in constant overdrive.
When Jesus says, “Come to Me,” He is not offering a motivational quote. He is offering Himself. Notice He does not say, “Come to a strategy,” or “Come when you’ve figured it out.” He says, “Come to Me.”
The word “weary” here suggests exhaustion from labor. “Burdened” suggests something heavy placed upon you. Some of what you are carrying is an assignment. But some of it is expectation. Some of it is comparison. Some of it is fear.
Jesus doesn’t shame the weary. He invites them.
In the following verse, He says, “Take my yoke upon you… for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” A yoke was a wooden beam placed over oxen to help them pull weight together. When Jesus invites you to take His yoke, He is saying: Stop pulling alone.
Stress often comes from carrying what God never asked you to carry by yourself.
You are not weak because you are tired. You are tired because you are human. And even Jesus withdrew to quiet places to pray. If the Son of God paused, you are allowed to pause.
Rest is not quitting. It is returning. Returning to your Source. Returning to your center. Returning to the truth.
Sherelle’s Thoughts
“Exhaustion is not proof of faithfulness. Release the lie that says you must prove your worth through constant movement. Reframe rest as obedience. Reconnect with the God who restores your soul.”
Framework applied:
- Release — Identify one thing you are carrying that is rooted in pressure, not purpose. Lay it down in prayer.
- Reframe — See rest as strategic, not selfish.
- Reconnect — Schedule uninterrupted time with God this week, even if it is only 10 minutes.
Practical Application
- Turn off notifications for one hour today and sit in silence or worship.
- Write down your top three stress triggers and ask God which ones are yours to carry.
- Practice saying, “That’s not mine to hold.”
Reflection Questions
- What is draining me most right now?
- Where have I confused busyness with obedience?
- What would it look like to truly come to Jesus this week?
Prevail Declaration
“I am not defined by exhaustion. I release unnecessary pressure. I reframe rest as obedience. I reconnect with the One who renews my strength. I will prevail NOW.”
